Aviation English Teacher Workshop Rome February 2010

The fourth aviation English teachers' workshop organised by the flightenglish forum will take place in Rome, Italy between 26-28 Feb 2010. 

"You are invited to submit your abstracts for presentations/workshops for possible inclusion to the 4th International Flight English Aviation English Professional’s Forum to be held in Rome on 26-28 February 2010. The title of this forum will be Where Aviation Meets English.  The aim of the forum is to examine and demonstrate techniques for classroom language training and testing in the aviation domain with a special emphasis on listening and speaking skills and rating against the ICAO rubric for Language Proficiency requirements." The flightenglish listserv is a lively discussion forum on Aviation Technical English. It is a way for people in different parts of the world to come together and discuss issues or ask for advice. Membership is by invitation only. Click the panel on the left for more details.

The flightenglish forum
The flightenglish forum is an entirely voluntary grouping of teachers of English language in the aviation sector. The forum is an internet list serv for the exchange of ideas and views covering the whole gamut of Aviation English activities from research to training to testing. The flightenglish forum is not affiliated to any commercial entity or aviation lobby group. Two years ago it was decided to hold informal workshops where teachers could meet to discuss matters relevent to their classroom tasks and demonstrate to others materials and techniques which had help them and their students in the training role.

The flightenglish forum has no direct connection with Flightspeak Ltd apart from the fact that Flightspeak Ltd via this website promotes the forum and its activities and aims on a voluntary basis.

 

Flightenglish Forum Seminar and Aviation English workshop
7-9 November 2008
Sabadell, near Barcelona, Spain

The first flightenglish forum workshop which took place between 7th and 9th November 2008 was hosted by TopFly Aviation College at Sabadell Airport near Barcelona, Spain. The workshop was aimed at practising teachers of aviation English and explored methods and materials adapted to the task of improving listening and speaking skills.

 

The second flightenglish forum teachers' workshop took place in Tallin Estonia from 24 to 26 April and was attended by teachers from Belgium, Estonia, Russia, The Czech Republic, Romania, the UK and Spain. The forum was hosted by the Estonian Air Navigation Services (EANS).

Themes  included the teaching of pronunciation using the verbo-tonal method, the development of a two skills curriculum, the use of computers to fashion audio materials and the benefits of using a CRM approach in the Aviation English Classroom.

 

 

Some of those who participated in the third flightenglish forum workshop in Sao Paulo, Brazil in May 2009. The forum was hosted by the BeHappy School, Sao Paulo whose director Liz Rossi is 4th from left.

Themes of the workshop included the creation of original specific English Language training materials for aviation disciplines and an examination of particular English language features encountered in aviation manuals and oral communications modes
